Retail Therapy: Versace’s Charitable Tote Bags

Retail Therapy: Versace’s Charitable Tote Bags

The house of Versace has long blended art and fashion for flawless results. Now, with a new charitable project spearheaded by Donatella Versace, that pairing has an added benefit. The iconic designer joined with the Starlight Foundation and the Whitney Museum of American Art this year to launch Art Unites, a collaboration that donated canvases, paint and art supplies to sick children around the world.

The finished drawings, each with a friendship theme, were then printed on Versace tote bags. Proceeds from sales of the bags go directly to the Starlight Foundation as well as to the One Foundation, which benefits young victims of the 2008 earthquake in China.

Versace believes that creativity and artistic expression aid in the healing process. To encourage sales of these charitable totes, the designer is offering an extra initiative: Anyone who buys one of these special bags between now and December 1 will receive a VIP discount of 20% at all Versace boutiques in the U.S. Thanks to Versace, shopping has never been so rewarding.

The totes are available exclusively online at Gilt, so shop our sale on Monday, October 19, at noon ET.

What a fantastic fund raiser. I have a 22 year old son that is a cancer survivor. When he finished his surgeries and chemo treatment we went on a Disney cruse through the Starlight foundation. What a great time we had as a family. His picture with all the Disney characters with his tan bald head is priceless. Thanks for the opportunity to contribute. Of course I bought the bag with Andrew's signature on it.

Which bag was Andrews? I was able to purchase a few bags...and will give one to my friend. It is for a wonderful cause and I am honored to have been able to contribute. I hope...well, I am sure they were able to sell all the bags. Do you know if there is a site that shows pictures of all the bags? It would be nice to see the entire collection in some time of on-line gallery.

Andrew's bag was a little animal piggy back on another animal. His signature on the bag reminded me so much of my Andrew. I received a email this morning from Gilt that we may not be getting the bag we ordered. I hope my is what I ordered. I'll be so disappointed if it's not.

I joined this site specifically to be able to buy these bags. I am so disappointed that I didn't get a notification from Gilt about the sale day :( My daughter make one of these bags (and got to work with Donatella herself :) and we were hoping to at least see the finished product. If anyone knows where there are photos of the bags, I'd really appreciate a link. Thank you.

I received two of my three bags today. They were not what I ordered. Extremely disappointed. I may be returning mine as well. I did e-mail Gilt Support to see if they have been receiving bags. I think they should try to gather all the bags and resend to the appropriate person who purchased it. Sorry you did not receive Andrews bag :-(

I sent a few messages to Customer Support in regards to the comment above about maybe being able to purchase the bags that have been returned. This is what Customer Support wrote back "Unfortunately at this time we are unable to see which bags are being returned. We hope to be able to offer the repurchase of the correct bags at some point. We are unsure when that will be" Also, I asked if there is a way to receive the bags we originally purchased, and they responded: "In some cases, members received a bag that they liked better than the once that had ordered and opted to keep it. So while we are trying to match up the bags to the correct member, it may not be possible for everyone since some people have decided to keep the bags that they did receive." I wish people would return the bags, even if they did like the one they received better. Unfortantely that is not the one they ordered. It was difficult to get bags in the first place...so it would be really nice to receive the bag that was originaill purchased.

I bought one for my Maid of Honor as her gift. She received hers today. It is not the one I ordered. So 3 out of 3...not what I ordered. That just does not make sense. So what to do?? There are people out there looking for a specific bag...like the Andrew bag!!! Looking for a bag that their child made.... mamarose1129, what bag are you looking for? There should be a way that people can post what bags they got so people can do swaps or something. I will probably return mine, but should I ask my Maid of Honor to return hers as well? It was a gift...but not the design I purchased. Anybody looking for: Rene, 16 (moon, purple/pink stars) Andraw, 10 from Las Vegas (smiley heart that says friends on top) Kalla, 9 (a rainbow colored purse)

Oh, I guess I should put the ones I am searching for: 1. Picture of two females heads that says Friends...as in this picture http://www.nbcnewyork.com/blogs/the-thread/Limited-Edition-Versace-Tote-Benefits-Art-Unites-64749757.html 2. One that spells out Versace (in pink) on the top with a flower in the middle..and it looks like shells or something on the each side of the flower 3. A red heart that is made out of the word friends

Thanks, obiang. Great idea! My daughter's name is Savannah, from NY. She drew a few of her friends in their prom dresses, along with their names (her 8th grade prom had been the week before). She made a yellow background. And because I am a mom and need to show off ;) , this blog article has a picture of my daughter & Donatella, and talks about her bag : http://fashionista.com/2009/07/donatellas_art_project.php
