Timbuk2: Carry On

We don’t need to rehash the history of the messenger bag or why Timbuk2 leads the industry. Instead, Emma Lee, the Gilt Man buyer responsible for bringing you this amazing sale, tells us why these bags are so great. And more importantly, the lifelong effect you’ll have on the ladies who see you carrying one.

Where did you first hear about Timbuk2?
I first saw Timbuk2 on this boy I had a crush on in high school. Loved the brand ever since!

What do you like to see on a guy, messenger bag or tote?
Messenger! But with super-short straps worn like a backpack.  
 
What excites you about Timbuk2?
I’m all about supporting local brands and manufacturers! After 20 years, Timbuk2 custom makes every piece in the heart of San Francisco. They’re not only tough as hell, but they look great, too!

What direction did you give the Timbuk2 design team for the Gilt Man exclusive styles?
They already use really great textures, so we worked with a few existing styles to incorporate some of those elements. I wanted to make sure the colors would be appropriate for autumn, while keeping the overall design sleek and style-conscious for the Gilt Man.  

Tell us about your three favorite styles from the sale.
I like the Checkpoint 22-inch medium suitcase with the WW2 ballistic nylon and the skateboard wheels. I love the cozy, wool fabrics used on the brown/gunmetal exclusive racing-stripe messenger bag. And the doctor duffel is perfect for the gym.
 
Are you getting one for yourself?
Of course! I’m definitely purchasing the brown/gunmetal racing messenger, and I’m thinking about getting the 25-inch Checkpoint suitcase for an upcoming trip.
