property of...: In the Bag

In 2006, Peter Teo and Richard Chamberlain began designing a collection of bags to sell in their trio of Singapore-based cafés. Their idea was to release well-constructed pieces that look great and serve a purpose – to hold necessary objects. Called property of…, each piece’s owner is meant to name their new bag themselves. Gilt Man sat down with property of…’s North American distributor, Jasen Bowes:

  • What’s the most important item you have in your bag right now?
  • A pen – you never know when your next great idea will happen.
  •
  • Give us five items every guy should have in their bag:
  • Pen, notebook, iPhone, knife (for impromptu picnics) and bus or subway pass.
  •
  • property of… has a creed to stay practical and reliable. How do you keep this idea alive and kicking?
  • There’s only one way – we use the bags every day.
  •
  • What’s so great about waxcloth?
  • It’s one of those rare fabrics, like denim, that actually looks better with age. And it's easy to clean for all you messy guys.

  • Get some property of... your own on Friday, October 30, at noon ET.

Love the practical inspiration behind the bags, bought, will be adored! Thank you GILT!
