Who What Wear: Skirt the Issues

Who What Wear: Skirt the Issues

With the debut of the book Who What Wear, fashionistas gained a brilliant new guide to style. One of our favorite chapters in the book, which was written by the women behind the addictive fashion magazine of the same name, breaks down elements of a perfect outfit for every occasion (date, interview, gallery opening, etc.). Here, some pointers from WWW founders Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power — and the Gilt Fuse finds to pull them off.

Art Opening
The goal: “An outfit that's a bit dressier and edgier than what you'd wear to work, but not as saucy as something you'd choose for a girls' night out."
Go for:  Gray or black jeans or slim pants; solid colored dresses; tights; ankle boots or interesting pumps; shrunken blazers; motorcycle jackets or cardigan-jacket hybrids; trendy tops; patterned scarves; natural lip gloss

Fundraiser
The goal: “An outfit that's classic but a bit demure."
Go for: Gray or navy knee-length dresses; capelettes or three-quarter-sleeve jackets; embellished clutches (see our BCBG sale on Gilt Fuse); modest heels

Corporate cocktail party
The goal: “An outfit that's appropriate, but still remains true to your personal party style."
Go for: Solid-colored strapless party dresses (like Mara Hoffman on Gilt Fuse); tuxedo jackets; patent leather pumps; gray eye shadow or berry lipstick

High school/college reunion
The goal: An outfit that conveys who you've become — not who or what you used to be or what you wish you were."
Go for: Jewel-tone dresses; strappy black pumps; personality-revealing jewelry (check out Adia Kibur on Gilt Fuse); metallic accents

Hot night out
The goal: An outfit that's a bit experimental, takes a few risks and includes a new fashion-forward trend."
Go for: Leather skirts, denim jackets; black shorts; sparkly tops; high-heeled boots or pumps; interesting makeup; trendy hairstyles

Ladies luncheon/shower
The goal: “An outfit that's similar to what you'd wear to a daytime wedding, but a bit more casual."
Go for: Colorful dresses; bright clutches; chic sunglasses
