The COLE HAAN handbag I ordered ISN'T REAL COLE HAAN. I will keep it BUT SHAME ON YOU.

Are you saying that they sold a fake ?

Whoohoo!! So excited for this. Gilt beats all other sample sales HANDS DOWN. Keep it going. =)

How can you tell it isn't real? I wonder if all of ours are fake?

By bradleynan821 on January 11, 2010 at 09:25:33 AM

Zun39 are you serious? why do you say that? that statement is making me not want to be a gilt member - i have spent tons of money with them and if the items are not authentic then please give us more detail. thank you for posting.

By yosnews on January 11, 2010 at 09:28:25 AM

That's very concerning if Guilt sold you a fake bag. I'm sure they had no idea and perhaps if you contact them directly about the issue, they will be more careful about where they get their merchandise.

By kssmiller on January 11, 2010 at 09:32:29 AM

How can merchandise that GILT sells as a label like COLE HAAN be a fake!!! SHAME ON THEM!!! If GILT employees are reading this, please do something about it. Please post a reply to keep us from jumping ship! GILT needs to address this, otherwise they risk loosing business!

By tbrennan1260 on January 11, 2010 at 09:36:57 AM

has anybody else had problems with fakes? hmmmm....how can we tell? this is really a problem if they are selling fakes --- I didn't buy any handbags -- but if those are fake then I suspect other things are as well - Gilt needs to respond to this post. Is this true?

By yosnews on January 11, 2010 at 09:38:16 AM

WHAT???? NOT REAL.....please let us know why you think it's fake.

By qboys2 on January 11, 2010 at 09:42:34 AM

Hi zun39, please let us know how you know for a fact that your cole haan handbag is a fake. thank you.

By phihangng on January 11, 2010 at 09:43:42 AM

GILT needs to address the fake bag issue pronto or I will delete them from my address book.

By rjbarlettarobert on January 11, 2010 at 09:44:28 AM

The GILT return policy is so easy... why wouldn't Zun just return the bag? Questionable... GILT doesn't sell fake merchandise.

By stephanievalier on January 11, 2010 at 09:48:56 AM

I also bought a Cole Haan bag from Gilt. How can you tell if it's fake? Or did someone from one of the competing shopping sites post that comment?

By mylink16115 on January 11, 2010 at 09:51:13 AM

Is Gilt guilty? I would love to know the answer to this. And hope they step up and respond to this concern. To the concerned customers, I would keep inquiring and don't let this go without getting an honest response.

By kellieann on January 11, 2010 at 09:51:30 AM

They certify it's real. If you think it's fake, contact them. I have never had any issues and I buy all the time.

By wisemandp on January 11, 2010 at 09:52:36 AM

awesomeeee

By angelinefit on January 11, 2010 at 09:53:45 AM

I buy all the time too, never a problem. If you think it's fake then make contact with them instead of stirring up drama on a thread.

By angelinefit on January 11, 2010 at 09:57:11 AM

It is a shame that someone chose to post their "allegation" without contacting Gilt directly. The staff is professional and works with you as a valued customer. I wouldn't put any stock in someone's accusation. I have been a Gilt shopper for many years and the one and only issue was resolved immediately...and that had to do with shipping.

By mmoberly on January 11, 2010 at 09:57:22 AM

I have purchased a few things from GILT and have not been overly impressed. If you take time to go onto the internet or just Amazon.com, you can find equally good bargains. Georgia B

By 4kzr7mgf9avyleh9l7fm on January 11, 2010 at 09:57:43 AM

I have bought several Cole Haan handbags and they are all real. I don't think that Gilt would be in business very long if they were selling fakes and I think that Zun might be the fake!

By pmswain on January 11, 2010 at 09:58:01 AM

Honestly, people. I've purchased from them in the past and never had issues with authenticity. A one off comment is not grounds for questioning everything particularly when no substantial evidence is given. This is much ado about absolutely nothing.

By jessicaszubart on January 11, 2010 at 09:58:09 AM

no way would Gilt sell a fake. NO WAY. ONe thing I did buy that was "weird" was a Vince sweater for my husband that had the label on the wrong side. This was more of a "second" than a fake...like Marshall and TJMax, sometimes the manufacturer will make a mistake, but it's still the right stuff, not fake

By jodimorelli on January 11, 2010 at 09:58:18 AM

ZUN39..Tell us ... How do you know it's fake??????? I have bought many items & I believe that GILT sells authentic items.

By lilac531 on January 11, 2010 at 09:58:40 AM

Obviously zun39 is not giving any explanation on this so it's claim is probably not true!

By mylink86228 on January 11, 2010 at 09:59:26 AM

There is no way they sold a fake. Period. Shame on you for spreading a rumor like that.

By dl4qwlcvkf2ctz267ycc on January 11, 2010 at 10:00:54 AM

I agree...SHAME on you. Even if you have absolute proof, you should be taking it up directly with Gilt customer service, as that is a pretty serious allegation. I've purchased products from Gilt, and have been nothing but impressed by the quality and prices.

By suziherzog on January 11, 2010 at 10:05:42 AM

I think it's a bit squirrely that Zun isn't going to return the bag if indeed, she knows it is a fake. If I spent a few hundred dollars on a site that I trusted and the item wasn't real, I'd be in touch with customer service asap, demanding a refund. This post doesn't smell right.

By clarkmr on January 11, 2010 at 10:05:52 AM

I am pretty surprised that no one fom GILT has officially commented to clear up the ambiguity here. zun39 is probably incorrect, but GILT, we could seriously do with some reassuring.... any time now!

By donnagracecullen on January 11, 2010 at 10:08:48 AM

Zun39- Are you serious?! I can't believe you would make a comment like that. Give me a break. There is NO WAY they would sell a fake. Everything is bought directly from the manufacturer. Shame on YOU for posting a fake comment.

By lucidanne6 on January 11, 2010 at 10:10:15 AM

I have brought beauty products only to find when they arrived they all only had a shelf life of 3-4 months left . I left them several emails to which the gilt group havent replied to any !! not that great sevice ....

By lucyhalperin on January 11, 2010 at 10:14:14 AM

Having bought a few small items under $200.00, and strongly felt that the items were authentic, I question this new company subjecting themselves to selling fakes, particularly with known, affordable items such as Cole Haan, Marc Jacobs, etc. If one is familiar with the product, its quality is a determinant of the item's authenticity. The demand for Gilt to address this accusation is can be assumed that it is being addressed by simply enabling the accessibility of these postings. Maybe the customer needs to support her (his) proposition of the item being a fake by stating the item's characteristic(s) that suggest to her it's not an authentic merchandise. Vonnie

By yvonnecaldwell40 on January 11, 2010 at 10:18:15 AM

Would it not be expected that if a problem exist that the party's 1st step is to address the issue with Guilt, and however this might be truth or not, about the cole hann bag, why would you keep it, unless the deal is extremely great. cj

By vcywjkp23zkvjgczq9yp on January 11, 2010 at 10:26:24 AM

If Gilt sold Zun a fake it would be unbeknownst to them unless they go through every piece of merchandise lol . They have to assume just like any retailer in good faith that they are receiving authentic pieces . They would never risk the reputation they have built for a Cole Hann bag . Zun, you should not make allegations on a public posting board unless you are ready to back it up . Tacky !!!!

By beachgirl050874 on January 11, 2010 at 10:28:00 AM

YAY! I would love to chill out after 2009! If Spa Chakra is involved in this sale, stay away!!! They are rude, ignore any information that we receive as part of the sale, make up their own rules and just downright unprofessional! I was scheduled for a Cut with Ric Pipino and they pushed me off onto a junior stylist that, if I was to make my own appt, I would have paid less than what I did for the sale! The certificate BANS you for including gratuity, yet they had you an envelope to give one. I had to use an atm IN THE SPA! (unprofessional and unsightly) to take cash out! I have no prob giving a tip and am a great tipper, but, they did not prepare me for it!!!!!!!!!

By anarodriguez on January 11, 2010 at 10:31:43 AM

I agree with clarkmr. It is very interesting that a new online shopping site has just pooped up. If you have not seen it or received their sale emails, it is called "ideeli". The format is very similar to Gilt but not as easily navigated. My first thought was this is a negative, without basis comment from a competitor. As others have said, where is the proof, why not speak directly to Gilt and why not answer the questions posed by the other Gilt posters on this site? Gilt has been around how long? Two years or more? Why, all of a sudden a lne negative comment? Makes you wonder......

By mpew1 on January 11, 2010 at 10:39:34 AM

IF an item you ordered is not a fake why would you keep it? an why would you use this forum to discuss. The readers have no way to help you. The returns are easy and the company stand by the products the sell so why should be ashamed. SHAME ON YOU.

By carlettapittman on January 11, 2010 at 10:44:13 AM

Ideeli, Editors Closet,Ruelala, and several others have been out there as long as, if not longer than, Gilt. As far as I know, they are all legit. Do an online research, and you will see that for yourselves. Gilt is great, but no means, the only game in town.

By kellywarren1 on January 11, 2010 at 10:45:34 AM

I have been in the apparel industry for 20+ years. I know first hand that labels protect their authenticity. I work with a company that has placed their goods on a similar site as Gilt's. As Gilt is very well known, Cole Haan is more than aware that they are selling their products. If the products were not authorized by Cole Haan, you can rest assured that there would be much legal action over the issue. The only possibility that makes sense is that if the purse were counterfeit, it could have been returned to Cole Haan from a retail customer who accommodated an end consumer and the authenticity of the product was not caught during the return inspection.

By tallgirltex on January 11, 2010 at 10:52:58 AM

This is the first time I have posted to Gilt's blog and feel that it is necessary! NO WAY! Gilt does not sell knock offs! I have purchased THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS of dollars in merchandise, ranging from beauty to trips! Can I tell you I have never made a return, no. Have items been not to my liking, yes. Have the fit charts been off, yes. But the customer service at gilt is professional, timely and have made good on whatever the problem was! I put it into a box and returned it! The items I have purchased have been, for one item, well into the hundreds of dollar - over a thousand dollar range and I have yet to see any imperfections or have I had a question about authenticity! You all know that if Gilt has an issue with QC or inventory, they send you an email and give you a complimentary credit! That is who they are! I will tell you what Zun did ladies and gentlemen.....She either tried to sell the item on a auction site and THEY made the choice to label it FAKE! OR she tried to return it to a retailer for FULL PRICE and they could not verify its authenticity due to the paper work. This ZUN person is a FAKE! If I had any trepidation about the authenticity of ANY item that I had received, you will be darn sure that I would be on the phone or computer to get down to the bottom of the problem and, it would have been returned! I am sure that Gilt would have returned the item and then some, even if when the item was genuine! We all know this if you are a die-hard member! Come ON! I CAN BET THAT THIS IS WHAT WAS DONE! SHAME ON YOU ZUN! And shame on the other Gilt member's for joining in on their pursuit to malign Gilt! The people that did comment in favor of this ZUN character I have two questions....DO YOU HAVE A MIND OF YOUR OWN? and "IF ONE PERSON WAS TO JUMP OFF A BRIDGE, WOULD YOU? Geez, I cannot believe that adults would be so gullible falling for ONE person's malignant post! If you are truly a member of gilt, you would know that this does not exist and that Gilt would not stand for it! Now, I cannot believe I wasted 10 minute and the words in this post to comment about this! RIDICULOUS!

By elow30 on January 11, 2010 at 10:55:01 AM

It's probably NOT a fake- I suggest you purchase and read "Deluxe-How Luxury Lost it Luster" by Dana Thomas. It explicitly details how many knock-offs are produced in the same factory as their pricier "authentic" counterparts, using the same materials. How is Zun39 an authentication expert anyways? That's a harsh statement to make and it can really damage Gilt's credibility.

I purchased a Marc Jacobs handbag from GILT as well as Saks and Eluxury before they went out of business. The Marc Jacobs purchased from GILT has the exact same manufacturing labels and quality as the ones purchased from Saks and Eluxury. I don't believe they would still be in business if they are selling knock-offs...knock-offs are too easy to come by via other Web sites and I'm sure it costs GILT a fortune to stay in business rather than risk their reputation by selling knock-offs. Shame on you for keeping the knock-off handbag when they have a return policy and more shame for posting this!

By platinum530i on January 11, 2010 at 11:06:40 AM

Hello, this is Susan Lyne, Gilt Groupe CEO. Gilt has never sold fakes and never will sell fakes. Our products are the brands they promise to be. In this case, we have a very good relationship with Cole Haan. We deal directly with Cole Haan headquarters in New York City. They have been our brand partner for two years and we love their merchandise and value our relationship with them. We stand behind everything we sell. Zun39, please contact me — sl@gilt.com <sl> — and I’d be happy to clear up any confusion.

By susan on January 11, 2010 at 11:08:26 AM

Well...Zun really created a fire storm with a few words! I suggest Zun is a fake and designed to do exactly what has happened: Make buyers doubt Gilt!

By kjeanne on January 11, 2010 at 11:11:39 AM

Zun is clearly from another shopping site. And I think everyone who posted before 10am is too. Somehow all of the outraged, doubting consumers disappeared after that time. Obviously Gilt's stuff is real. Obviously their return policy is super easy. I've been with them for two years. I always do my research, and they are without a doubt the lowest prices around. The products are all clearly high quality. Gilt is written up in every major paper, magazine, etc. In short, I love my Gilt! Funny that this fake post got everyone all riled up though!

By tamar484 on January 11, 2010 at 11:12:42 AM

I've bought many, many things from Guilt and have never questioned a thing!

By smitterbee on January 11, 2010 at 11:15:20 AM

That is simply not true about the CH bag. Gilt is the real deal. Shame on the poster!

By benjasmith on January 11, 2010 at 11:19:27 AM

I have ordered MANY items from GILT since it opened --- and none have ever been a "fake." My daughters and I are very knowledgeable about brands and quality and know real from fake, firsts from seconds. Cole Haan has updated its styling on certain items --- perhaps a new lighter is the buyer's issue...

By lwt1153 on January 11, 2010 at 11:20:10 AM

Look- the person is obviously bored, a competitor, a child.. etc. Stop wasting your breath. Gilt would have addressed this and reconciled any issue like this had the buyer brought it to their attention and WHO WOULDN'T? Who would pay top dollar for a knock-off and then KEEP IT? Yeah, me neither. Let this die.

By iamnotperfection on January 11, 2010 at 11:27:38 AM

People complaining about make up being only a few months off their expiry date and the occasional second when they recieve their goods. Just out of idle curiosity - how do you think gilt get such pieces so cheaply? The products will be end of line, or slight seconds that didn't quite make the mark to sell at full price. Surely this is obvious to anyone with half a brain

By amandamaesteele on January 11, 2010 at 11:28:58 AM

Well I'm no "sheep" --- however when consumers speak I listen - and obviously so does the CEO of Gilt - Nobody wants to be defrauded - and so asking questions is always ok. Personally I love every purchase I have made from Gilt - I have never had a single issue - also I use my head - so I will continue to shop with Gilt as I have been. However, I will take my Ralph Lauren Purple Label purchase into Ralph Lauren and have someone that works with the product everyday assure me that it is in fact authentic. We are all speculating because we don't have the facts - perhaps zun39 is from another site or just an idiot who wanted to stir drama - or perhaps they have a valid complaint. I don't know - I just know for my own peace of mind I am going to check things out for myself. My gut tells me that Gilt is 100% on the up and up. But then people believed Madoff too - lol -- so I'm headed to Mich ave this afternoon.

@lucyhalperin: We take Customer Service seriously, and it sounds like you didn't have a great experience reaching us. Give us a call at (877) 280-0545 or email us via support@gilt.com - we're responding to all of our customers in about 24 hours right now (it was definitely taking longer during the holiday season - apologies to all for that). We'll be happy help you resolve any concern.

This is the best piece of social media doing it's job that I've seen in a while. Hats off to Gilt's CEO for being present with this debate.

What Cole Haan bag did you purchase Zun? I have a beautiful, authentic woven leather handbag that I purchased and I not only love it, I get many compliments on it. If you have an issue, please contact customer service. Be Blessed

By thebronzedone on January 11, 2010 at 12:27:31 PM

My son often orders things from Gilt and turned me on to the site. He loves buying from Gilt and has had no problem with any of his purchases or returns. His only reason for return has been he didn't like the fit on him on a few items. The merchandise is authentic and high quality. The items I have purchased have also been great and I will continue to buy. The one time I contacted Customer Service about an item, I was helped very professionally and to my complete satisfaction.

By cowgurlkim on January 11, 2010 at 12:32:13 PM

In all fairness I have bought several items, including bags, and all of it is authentic. This "fake" issue must be a competitor pulling a fast one - diffused by Susan Lyne. Full stop. Lets get back to shopping people!

Ok my fellow Gilt Groupe Shoppers! I have returned from Ralph Lauren with as expected GOOD NEWS -My items are 100% AUTHENTIC! I'm not sure what the heck is going on with zun39 - but my items are all 100% Authentic. (I purchased Ralph Lauren Purple Label items) In the process I've learned something useful - companies have RN numbers which are registered with the FTC. RN stands for Registered Identification Number. It is a number issued by the FTC to U.S. businesses in the manufacturing, importing, or distributing of products covered by the Textile, Wool and Fur Acts. Businesses can use this number on their labels in lieu of their company name. When in doubt - FIND OUT! So enjoy your shopping experience with Gilt with great confidence - I know I will - I've already gotten some pretty good deals this morning - Good Luck!

By yosnews on January 11, 2010 at 02:23:39 PM

The Cole Haan bag ( I purchased the woven one ) is not returnable. Please let us know how to tell if the bag is authentic or a knock off. I am not into labels or an avid shopper but I would like to know how to tell authenticity. I would like to know if this is a problem or just a disgruntled shopper.

By cbiasello on January 11, 2010 at 03:06:38 PM

Zun39 is probably a troll trying to stir up some controversy. See how she dominated this entire comment log. I have purchased many things from Gilt....all to be authentic. Some items are hard to find and when they are sold out in stores...I cross my fingers that they pop up on Gilt. And they eventually do!

By mavenslure on January 11, 2010 at 03:12:11 PM

My fiancé bought Cole hann mens driving shoes and they came with a neiman Marcus tag on them I really don't think they're fake for that fact... They probably bought older shoes at a great deal or over stocked items! I believe in their authenticity 100%

By adukat on January 11, 2010 at 03:36:44 PM

I've bought quite a few items from Gilt and have been very pleased with the whole purchasing experience. I've come across fake designer brands before and you could always tell they are fake by looking closely at the stitching, tags, etc. I highly doubt Gilt would sell fakes, judging by the quality of the goods I have purchased. Even if you can find merchandise cheaper than Gilt, I come back because of the customer service. And if some people do have doubts about Gilt.....well all I can say is, more for me! =)

I love Gilt Group!!

By oooshesbad on January 11, 2010 at 04:58:41 PM

Why would anyone fake a Cole Haan? it is not like it is an Hermes Birkin, Chanel or LV for that matter. Usually the pricier bags are copied, and why would Gilt risk its reputation by doing this? I have made many purchases and all arrive with authenticity tags/cards. I think Zun needs to check her facts (and her bag)before he/she makes unsubstantiated blanket accusations.

By mghshgl on January 11, 2010 at 06:14:55 PM

please when advertising shoes write what fabric is on the inside...especially for boots ...and the sole and heel material...i like to know what i am buying. plus many of the "fashion "technical descriptions are wrong.

By jmdiiorio on January 11, 2010 at 07:03:51 PM

I can not imagine the motivation of the person accusing Gilt of fakes; however, I can certainly verify that every item from Gilt has been of the highest quality and the integrity of the site and the customer service has been irreprochable. They are generous, respond quickly, have returned and credited in a timely manner and have been more than generous in their compensation for anything that was not as pictured or if the site was not functioning properly. As most of us who buy from Gilt have their "PhD" in shopping, I am sure the commentary speaks for itself.

By rsfgirl on January 11, 2010 at 09:16:26 PM

just don't go to Rue La La, they have horrible customer service. They have changed their return policy after they decided they couldn't meet a deadline. They have had in hand a return of mine since mid-December and I still have not received credit. And there are nasty rude people who work there.

By jtesf on January 11, 2010 at 10:20:10 PM

Gilt does need to do some serious editing when it comes to the clothing that is polyester... YUCK. I purchased Elizabeth & James pants at one point and a yellow blouse (possibly Cynthia Vincent) - hoping for the best with each shipment because it was Gilt - and I had to return both because the fabric was just so awful.

Does anybody else notice that orders sometimes take WAY too long to get to you? I ordered a pair of rain boots on December 10, and they still haven't arrived. This is the rainy season in Southern California, so when can I expect to actually receive my boots, July? I'm wearing my garden boots because these things haven't come yet. If they're not here in week, I'm canceling the order. I need those boots!

By jez on January 12, 2010 at 10:15:04 AM

Ladies Ladies..do not bite from the hand that feeds you and in this case with Zun do not allow someone who is trying to create commotion get under your skin. If you look the person made one post and disappeared. In regards to the boots call the company. It could be a miss hap on the shipping end and Guilt should not be faulted for that. I thank Guilt for giving me the opportunity to buy exquisite items for an affordable price.

This is an unfortunate dialogue .....I AGREE with an earlier writer that GILT should have an opportunity to respond rather than put doubt in shoppers that have been extremely pleased with purchases. I TOO have ordered several bags to INCLUDE Cole Hann and KNOW merchandise and it is NOT fake. You should STOP shopping with GILT and take your matter up with them rather than try and distroy a find reputation because you are disappointed..... Fair is Fair..... I am sure you have OTHER issues that have occured before where GILT may have been correct but not to your satisfaction so you find a way to create doubt. They try to accommodiate with substitutes....however.....the option is ALWAYS available to RETURN....at no additional expense....that's fair and good business.... I have always view GILT as a place where discriminating high quality fashion shoppers (professional minded) go to find great buys....NOT THE CONCERN but RATHER the unprofessional manner in which the person starting this has responded provide a different outlook...... It is not what one does...BUT how they do what they do.... I suggest those of us who enjoy and respect the value of what we shop for .... MOVE ON....and hopefully the person(S) so outraged....MOVE ON as well..

I love gilt such a great clean, concise, website. Keep the sales coming. I wish the sales could be longer than 48 hours.

i received a diffuser that was very old, the cork was falling apart and the scent was gone. they told me i could pay to return it myself for a store credit, but the inconvenience and cost of shipping back a heavy glass jar, full of liquid, wasn't worth it...

smeagher9 -there is absoultely no reason cole haan would sell anything less than the quality bags they produce and Gilt would not sell fask bags period. What are the things that you see on teh bags that would make you think the bag is not authentic?

I've been buying from Guilt several years and find each and every person I've talked with to be professional, as well polite. I only wish I were able to purchase more items for the prices cannot be beat. My only issue is that shoes do not come in narrower sizes, however, this would create addtional inventory that may bot be sold. I'm very impressed with the web site, merchandise and of couse prices.Macmac

Well I just made my first purchase on Gilt and sadly, the Bodum double wall french press comes badly cracked. While there is no return policy on this, the item I receive should have been in the condition as it was advertised. The crack is so bad that I would have swallowed the glass bits if i'd attempted to drink coffee frm it. I hope the Gilt folks will do something about this. Crossing fingers. And I'm pretty sure that is a consumer rights policy somewhere to govern this. I'm gona check it out. Anyone had the same experience when the item received was compromised?
