Behind the Shoot: Rebecca Minkoff

Rebecca_Minkoff_outtake1For the city that never sleeps, there’s no denying New York City’s signature nonstop vibe. And luckily for Gilt’s creative team, the buzzy urban landscape is also our backyard — a perfect setting to capture one of our favorite labels, Rebecca Minkoff, in its element. We got the inside scoop from Art Director Jennifer Gonzales: “We chose to shoot around Flatiron because it has such great New York energy.  Almost too much, we discovered! Between Madison Square Park (Shake Shack!) and Broadway, there’s a ton of that typical Manhattan hustle and bustle — taxis, buses, pedestrians, tourists, food carts.”

Inside Glimpse: Eddie Borgo Shares Sketches & Inspiration

eddieborgo_moodboard_rs

Consider the pieces designed by Eddie Borgo—CFDA winner, fashion world darling, and re-definer of what “luxury” means in the jewelry space—the markers of a modern It girl. Diane Kruger, Sienna Miller, and Rihanna are all fans, and obviously, so are we—the line returns to Gilt today, and to celebrate, we asked the designer to share some of his inspiration in the mood board above (vintage Linda Evangelista? We’re sold!) and in the interview that follows:

StyleFile: Where do you generally turn for inspiration?
Eddie Borgo: Art, architecture, geometry and form—paired with clever engineering.

SF: What’s the most unexpected source you’ve been inspired by?
EB:  I recently re-visited the jewelry collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London—they hold over 3,000 jewels from ancient times to present day. I was surprisingly not drawn to the contemporary jewelry, I was really fascinated by the 19th century pieces. At that time in jewelry design, the focus turned to the past and goldsmiths attempted to revive ancient techniques that imitated archaeological jewelry. The pieces were elaborate, and the compositions were complex.

ZAC Zac Posen: The New Go-To for Everyday Glamour

Zac_byMichael_smZac Posen has never been one to play it safe. The CFDA Award-winning designer showed his first collection at 21, nabbed Sean “P. Diddy” Combs as an early investor, and released a buzzy collab with Target in 2008 — all the while dressing and mingling with his enviable coterie of friends and muses (Coco Rocha, Natalie Portman, and Claire Danes, to name a few). In Fall 2013, he was at it again with the launch of ZAC Zac Posen — on Gilt today — a contemporary line he calls a “natural evolution of the Zac Posen brand”.

“I’m inspired by a woman who is youthful, metropolitan, characterized by an eased sophistication, and has a strong sensibility,” Posen tell us. “The collection is designed for a customer looking for fashion, but with an accessible reach.” A lover of all things tailored and Old Hollywood, Posen has infused the line with the architectural craftsmanship and striking materials that have become his signatures: “What’s special about ZAC Zac Posen is the use of fabric manipulation techniques to achieve a truly day-to-night look. They can be accessorized elegantly for the daytime and paired with an evening clutch for after-work events.”

As far as dressing for spring goes, Posen’s playing favorites: “I always love stretch satin crepe for the impeccable quality of embracing and enhancing every body type; the knits are so comfortable and very stylish; and the printed georgette is a must for spring and summer. This season is all about florals, our very own Glasgow green, and jewel tones such as amethyst.”
