The Gilt Insider Guide to the Perfect Day in London

London’s calling this summer! From the Diamond Jubilee to the Olympics, is there a city in the world that can rival the British capital’s buzz at the moment? has teamed up with Burberry to bring you the ultimate wardrobe to wear while traveling in London, so you’ll know just how to live like a local during a day out taking in the sights of the city. Shop the Burberry: Your Passport to London event on on July 18, starting at noon ET.

But what to do while the sun is blazing high over Big Ben? Read on for an insider’s take on what to do in London for a perfect day (or three!) in the always-cool capital.

Start with a stroll through Kensington Gardens, which just happens to be the location of the Burberry Prorsum show during London Fashion Week. The Serpentine Gallery is a spectacular contemporary art space within the park, and this year’s pavilion designed by Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei is a must-see. Don’t forget to check out the Royal Albert Hall across the way to see if there is a good gig on for later that night. The gardens have belonged to the royal family since 1689, so prepare to feel like you’re slipping back in time.

Take in more British history by visiting the venerable V&A museum, for centuries of apparel and accessories along with decorative arts. The exhibition of the summer is the swoon-worthy “Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950,” with pieces worn by famous Brits alongside off-the-runway confections.

If a traditional museum is more your speed, visit the Tate Britain. Iconic pieces in the permanent collection include Auguste Rodin’s “The Kiss” and Marchel Duchamp’s “Fountain.” If contemporary art is more your bag, walk over the Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern to take in the first major retrospective of YBA Damien Hirst in Britain.

Oh, and we bet you want to do a spot of shopping too, right? London is a famous fashion city for a reason. Head to Regent Street, the site of the soon-to-be-opened Burberry flagship store, for designer boutiques galore. If you fancy a bit of High Street fast fashion to take home with you, brave the crowds at Oxford Circus. And don’t miss the other beautiful Burberry boutiques in Knightsbridge, Bond St, and Burberry Brit in Covent Garden.

And no day in London would be complete without high tea! Sip elegantly from the finest china while nibbling on scones and clotted cream at Claridge’s, or sample one of 17 types of tea in the Palm Court at the Ritz, another London institution.

Wondering what to do in London at night? Check out The Gilt Insider Guide To The Perfect Night Out In London for some inspiring ideas.

And make sure to shop the Burberry: Your Passport to London event on, and check out all of our recommendations for what to do in the British capital here on Gilt Insider!

What to Wear to Summer Weddings Decoded!

The envelope arrives in the mail and you rip it open with excitement over a pal’s fabulous upcoming summer wedding…and then you see the dress code and your heart sinks. What does one wear to a Sunday afternoon garden party wedding? How do you keep your heels from sinking into the sand? And can you wear your New Year’s Eve gown to a black tie affair in the summer?

We’re here to solve all your guest dilemmas (well, everything but the date!). Here are our handy guidelines of what to wear to all the weddings you have this summer. Shop our Summer Wedding Invites Decoded on June 11, starting at noon ET on!

Summer Formal: While your guy can play it safe in a tuxedo, it’s time to break out the most colorful gown you have! Think about lighterweight fabrics like chiffon or silk jersey (ie, no velvet or heavy lace) for a feeling that’s a little more relaxed and undone. Keep your hair a little looser too – messy updos hold up to warmer temperatures better than a structured and sprayed one. Glam heels and a glittering clutch complete the look — and bare skin calls for plenty of bling!

Garden Party: This is the perfect occasion for that classic strapless, full skirted dress in cotton or linen. Or keep it slimmer with an easy shift shape, but skip the sleeves for an outdoor affair. Don’t forget the critical piece of walkable wedges that won’t create divots in the grass and a shoulder bag that won’t need to be placed on the ground.

Beach Wedding:
Time to be easy and breezy! While your date can get dressed in a linen shirt and lightweight slacks, it’s time to rock your favorite maxidress! Skip anything too constricting that will feel uncomfortable as the temperature rises and the sand flies. Stay on good footing with embellished or metallic flat sandals!

Saturday Night Cocktails:
When in doubt, stick to the more traditional wedding look for guests. For summer, it’s a bright sheath in satin or silk with a strappy heel and easy clutch. Keep the sparkles to a minimum and remember, only the bride should wear white!
