#FlashbackFriday: Style Icons of the Mod Movement

Sixties-inspired dressing was one of the biggest trend takeaways from the Fall ’14 shows — and rightly so, considering the wealth of iconic references, from the micro hemlines championed by Brit designer Mary Quant to the splashy color-coordination of power girl groups like The Supremes and The Ronettes. And while the modern slant on mod is certainly an homage to the era, you can go for subtlety with pieces from our Fall Trend #6: ’60s Moment sale, featuring throwback favorites revamped for right now: Think sleek knee-high boots, geometric shades, and streamlined dresses in psychedelic prints. But don’t fret if you missed your shot at the rest of our trend series: We’ve got the fix with The Fall Trend Shop, your destination for the season’s best bets, updated weekly with a brand new trend to obsess over. Take a cue from our vintage roundup of the decade’s ultimate style-setters, then get shopping for a seriously chic, this-minute look.

Spring Trends: Nylon’s Rachael Wang Shows Us How to Wear Black & White

Does anyone know the ins and outs of trends better than the fashion editors who help distill them? Our thoughts exactly. And since spring fashion has officially arrived, we’ve tapped some of the industry’s chicest pros for the inside scoop on how to incorporate right-this-minute pieces into your wardrobe all season in our spring trends series.

First up is Nylon’s Fashion Market Director, Rachael Wang, who’s fallen particularly hard for one of spring’s biggest stories: Black and white. “What I love about the trend this season is that it doesn’t feel mod or retro at all — the shapes are modern and the fabrics are innovative,” she says. Try her graphic, mix-and-match approach, or test the waters with a bit of sleek color-blocking: “You don’t have to go all out. Try beige accessories to break up the starkness, and err on more white than black.”

Ready to follow suit? Shop the first of our spring trends now, then check back each week for what’s new (plus a few choice styling tips from more of fashion’s finest).
