Instant Cool Factor: The Statement Sweatshirt

sweatshirts

The semiannual Fashion Week rush turns NYC into a veritable urban playground for the style elite, with swarms of photographers poised to capture editors, models, bloggers, and celebs in carefully curated — #OOTD-worthy — looks as they dash from show to show. Standing out is certainly no easy feat, but rest assured that hand-painted Burberry trench coats and Moschino-stamped Happy Meal accessories aren’t prerequisites for street style success. The easiest way to look seriously cool? Throw on a statement sweatshirt. The casual classic has come a long way from its coach-potato origins, revamped for the modern city girl with vintage logos, splashy graphic prints, and over-the-top embellishments. Get inspired by these street-style veterans, and score your own dressed-up layering piece from our sale, starting tonight at 9pm ET.

Sustainable Style: TOMS’ Founder Blake Mycoskie Talks One for One.®

“We’ve helped over 250,000 people get their sight back, and that’s growing every day,” says TOMS’ founder Blake Mycoskie, who expanded the brand’s successful One for One.® model, originally created with their signature slip-on shoes, a few years ago to include eyewear. Which means that with every pair of sunglasses — debuting on Gilt today — sold, TOMS helps restore sight to a person in need, through sight-saving surgery, prescription glasses, or medical treatment.

Lindsey Unterberger, Executive Editor
“Summer nails usually scream bright colors—as they should!—but sometimes a pop of bold orange or blue can be too much next to a statement outfit for me. I love the sophistication this twist on a reverse French manicure brings to my hot pink dress!”

Recreate her look:
1. Apply base coat.
2. Turn your left hand to the side so your thumb is pointing toward you, and using the thinnest nail art or paint brush you can find, draw a C-shape as close to the cuticle as possible. I used Urban Jungle here. Repeat on the right hand by making backward C-shapes on each nail.
3. Apply a coat of Fierce No Fear to the rest of each nail, getting it as close as possible to the C-shapes you drew.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3.
5. Apply top coat and let dry. So cute!
