Feminine, distinctive, confident, and just a touch ladylike: Michelle Smith of Milly creates clothing we all love to wear with good reason. Smith tells Gilt StyleFile that “the Milly girl knows no boundaries!,” and who doesn’t want to be that girl? So we are thrilled to have a Milly event on Gilt.com, starting at noon ET on October 16.
Smith explains, “My designs always have a certain classicism, which transcend the trend of the moment.” And her line of handbags are a testament to that statement with timeless shapes in the most luxe leathers and fabrics, but always with a twist that keeps them interesting and unique.
Where would our work wardrobes be without Milly? Sheaths that make us feel sexy but are always still appropriate, wrap dresses that flatter, and all with the color and pattern that we’ve come to adore from the brand. Even Milly’s sweaters have enough delight and whimsy to keep us feeling fun when we need to be cozy.
Every piece is a lasting investment, thanks to Smith’s savvy design philosophy. The NYC-based designer tells us, “I guess one of the keys to my success is my ability to evolve with the trends while maintaining my signature look. The collection is built to last for years to come. I love pulling out some vintage Milly each season to mix with my new collection pieces!”

Admit it, you’ve coveted Joan Holloway’s wardrobe on Mad Men more than once. Apparently, you’re not alone. Designers from Derek Lam to Anna Sui to Diane von Furstenberg filled the Fall 2012 runways with curvy silhouettes meant for the workplace.
Start with the basic silhouette by getting a pencil skirt or a sheath dress (we love the slim styles from Rachel Roy and Ava & Aiden). Then layer on a sweet and saucy cropped cardigan or a peplum jacket from Z Spoke.
And let’s not forget about the accessories! That’s what will take this look from everyday office attire to a fashionable ’50s flair. Tie a printed silk scarf around your neck, or slip on a multi-strand pearl necklace. Pointy kitten heels or cap-toe flats let you stride in style and comfort. Your work tote gets an upgrade in classic, structured shapes in neutral tones. If it’s cooler outside, short leather gloves in a bright color from Portolano are the perfect finishing touch.
Are you ready to conquer the workplace this fall in style? We are! Shop Fall Trend Alert: Retro Office Chic on September 4, starting at noon ET.
The old saying about when one door closes, another opens has never held more true than for designer Emma Fletcher. The Australian native had decided to close down her cult-favorite NoLIta boutique Lyell after the birth of her daughter, when the opportunity arose to reinvigorate Tocca.
A line that was a favorite of cool girls everywhere when it launched in 1994, Tocca had become as well known for its lovely beauty line as for its original feminine designs. The self-taught designer and former winner of the Ecco Domani Foundation Award for Young Designers has risen to the challenge with incredible success.
Fletcher has reinvigorated the brand, as evidenced by the fall collection available on Gilt.com, starting at noon ET on August 31. Inspired by Victorian stationery, the collection features pieces that fuse delicate details with flattering shapes. Nubby wool tweeds are charming in schoolboy coats, while peter pan collared tops find edge in bold fuchsia. And scalloped details run throughout in standout shift dresses and on-trend shorts.
Shop Tocca on Gilt.com, starting at noon ET on August 31.
