Fashion may be an industry known for always seeking the next big thing, so how much more special is it that Akris is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year? Did we mention that the company is third-generation family-owned and run? Creative Director Albert Kriemler, grandson of founder Alice Kriemler-Schoch, has brought the Swiss brand to the forefront of international fashion, showing at Paris Fashion Week for the past ten years as an official member of the Fédération Française de la Couture du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode. No wonder celebrities as diverse as Princess Charlene of Monaco and Angelina Jolie love to wear the brand’s clean, architectural designs on the red carpet.
Known for their luxe materials and expert tailoring, Kriemler produces everything from couture-worthy double-face cashmere jackets to a three-year-old handbag line that incorporates a rarely-used horsehair fabric. The key to the clothing is in the famed fit, which allows the wearer to shine first and foremost. Kriemler has been quoted as saying, “A women dressed in Akris is noticed first for herself. Isn’t the highest appreciation a woman can get for how she’s dressed is that she looks interesting and smart, while feeling beautiful and comfortable?”
