Spring 2012: Four Trends We’re Loving at NYC Fashion Week

Fashion Week is already more than half over, and we’ve seen some really incredible shows so far! But how is the age-old question of how runway fashion translates to the real woman’s wardrobe being answered this season? We can truthfully say that the catwalks have been filled with wearable clothing in flattering colors and easy silhouettes. (No, really!) Here are some of the top trends we’re loving already for Spring 2012. And make sure to check out our favorite images from the shows at GiltGroupe.Tumblr.com!

1. Color, Color, Color: From cobalt paired with bright yellow and head-to-toe pinks, to softer sorbet tones like seafoam green and pale coral, next spring is all about color. Even the fashion flock has given up its customary black, making for front rows filled with vibrant hues that make us more convinced than ever that we can work all these brights into our looks for spring.

2. Prints Charming: Were NYC designers as inspired by the blockbuster Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as we were? Kaleidoscopic swirls and photo florals at Derek Lam (above, middle) Prabal Gurung, Peter Som, Altuzzara, DKNY, and pretty much every other show have us preparing for a pattern-filled season.

3. It’s a Pants World: Dresses are always easy in the summer months, but expect to be tempted by a bevy of trousers—from printed pants to sleek pantsuits to cropped cuts (like the coral pair at Rachel Roy above, right)! And there’s no one silhouette that’s reigning supreme, so you can pick the shape that’s right for your figure.

4. Sports Night: Anoraks, drawstring details, racing stripes, mesh jerseys… All the familiar tropes of athleticwear popped up in chic, wearable forms at Alexander Wang, Rag and Bone (above, left), and even Victoria Beckham.

Now you know what styles to stock up on; what are you waiting for? Start shopping all the sales today on Gilt.com.
