Zoe Ruderman, Senior Style Editor at, points to shine, color and chokers as the highlights of the evening. Ruderman tells Gilt StyleFile, “I’m a huge fan of sequins and I was excited to see that they continued to be a red carpet trend this awards season, specifically at the Oscars.”

She points to Rose Byrne’s Vivienne Westwood good as being particularly inspirational. “[The dress] felt like the perfect combination of fun and glamorous — it was fresh and young but simultaneously had an Old Hollywood vibe. And I’m now looking for an excuse to wear the ABS by Allen Schwartz Long Sequin Gown from the Gilt sale!”

While white and black made a strong showing on the carpet, Ruderman points to the fiery hue of the night as her most inspirational. “After seeing all of the red-hot scarlet gowns, I’m excited to inject a bit more of the hue into my spring wardrobe. I especially loved Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli, Michelle Williams in coral Louis Vuitton and Claire Danes in Valentino.”

Let’s not forget the accessories! While we may not be able to afford most of the diamonds from the night, the style that ruled is an easy one to grab a look-alike of and incorporate into our daily wardrobes. Ruderman explains, “And in terms of jewelry, I was loving the diamond chokers that were spotted on Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and Michelle Williams. The delicate-yet-dazzling necklaces were a gorgeous complement to strapless and off-the-shoulder gowns, and they’d look equally stunning paired with less formal attire like a black tee or a white button-down.”
