The orderly elegance of Aviva Stanoff's textiles, stationery, and housewares is attributable to Stanoff’s memories of childhood summers spent at her grandfather's Buddhist temple in Japan, as well as her experiences taking Japanese flower arranging and calligraphy classes. The Brooklyn-based designer uses sumptuous materials such as silk dupioni, velvet and satin as bases for her hand-made bed pillows, which feature real flower buds and blooms etched and embossed onto the fabric. Stanoff’s collection includes glass vases (the Collette, a transparent vessel embossed with gold or pewter, is a favorite), engraved wall hangings, hand-beaded clutch purses and — in a unique turn — a line of cashmere clothing for babies.
