Bholu
Bholu is the brainchild of Australian designer Jodie Fried, who commissions handmade textiles from artisans in developing parts of the world. The word, which is a term of endearment in India’s Kachchhi dialect, inspires the indie label’s aesthetic. Following strict fair-trade guidelines, it produces whimsical throws, pillows, rugs, and plush animals, many boasting bright colors and cartoonish embroideries. Aside from earning design plaudits, Bholu has also won over champions of eco-responsibility: The company was named one of TIME’s Top 100 Most Influential Green Designers in 2009.
