Description: This exquisite coffee is harvested in Kenya on the Karuya Estate and packaged by the Brown Coffee Company. The beans were purchased as lot 890 through the Kenyan government-sanctioned auction system. This system of buying allows for traceability of the coffee beans' provenance.
The coffee is grown at 5000+ feet elevation, and higher elevation means better tasting coffee. The beans are a drought resistant, wonderfully perfumed sub-varietal of the heirloom French Mission Bourbon bean. They have been fully washed in fresh water and dried on raised cloth beds in order to ensure quicker, more even drying and reduce the effects of moisture.
The coffee has a honeyed aroma and full bodied flavor. When hot, the coffee has notes of juicy, explosive citrus including blood orange and Ruby Red grapefruit. As it cools, the coffee takes on notes of honey, plum and black currant. The flavor is slightly savory and has solid acidity in balance with substantial body.
Each package of coffee beans measures 12 ounces. Coffee is shipped as whole beans in order to retain freshness longer. Each bag has a 14 day shelf life.
