About Carlos Falchi

In the early 1970s, accessories designer Carlos Falchi was just another boy from Brazil living in New York City. Then he landed a job at the legendary New York hangout Max’s Kansas City, and his unconventional home-sewn handbags caught the attention of cool kids Mick Jagger and Tina Turner. Today, Falchi’s design studio on New York City’s W. 39th Street still hand-produces minimalist clutch purses, oversize hobo and tote bags, and deconstructed satchels from exotic alligator, crocodile, and python skins and premium leathers. As vivid and colorful as their rock-and-roll forebears, Falchi’s quintessentially New York bags are popular with celebs such as Madonna and Jessica Simpson, and even had a cameo in <i>Sex and the City</i>.

Carlos Falchi is unrivaled in the world of luxury handbags with over 37 years in the industry. His designs have always influenced the market from 1980 when <i>Women’s Wear Daily</i> declared his Buffalo Satchel, “the most copied bag in the industry,” and his bags have been selected to compliment the runway creations of designers such as Donna Karan, Catherine Malandrino, Vera Wang, Ralph Rucci and Bill Blass. Honors range from the Coty Award in 1983 to CFDA award nominations in 2004 and 2006. Falchi has distinguished himself through his use of exotic skins, each bag made completely by hand.
