In the early 1970s, accessories designer Carlos Falchi was just another boy from Brazil living in New York City. Then he landed a job at the legendary New York hangout Max’s Kansas City, and his unconventional home-sewn handbags caught the attention of cool kids Mick Jagger and Tina Turner. Today, Falchi’s design studio on New York City’s W. 39th Street still hand-produces minimalist clutch purses, oversize hobo and tote bags, and deconstructed satchels from exotic alligator, crocodile, and python skins and premium leathers. As vivid and colorful as their rock-and-roll forebears, Falchi’s quintessentially New York bags are popular with celebs such as Madonna and Jessica Simpson, and even had a cameo in Sex and the City.
