Named for its hands-on approach, this Austin-based company works with artisans around the world to create custom designs using sustainable materials. In 1991, on an Eat-Pray-Love fest of self-discovery, founder Brett Hatton set off to retrace the ancient Silk Road between China and Europe. He found so many antique treasures, furniture items and rare devices in Pakistan and India that his future path became clear: he set up a furniture business to bring his finds to the world. In addition to its eponymous line, Four Hands makes five other collections of furnishings and lighting, including Bina, Boulevard, Old Java, Architects & Heroes, and Bluefish; they are also the exclusive North American distributor for furnishings by Esquire Home.
