Named for its hands-on approach, this Austin-based company works with artisans around the world to create custom designs using sustainable materials. In 1991, on an Eat-Pray-Love fest of self-discovery, founder Brett Hatton set off to retrace the ancient Silk Road between China and Europe. He found so many antique treasures, furniture items and rare devices in Pakistan and India that his future path became clear: he set up a furniture business to bring his finds to the world. In addition to its eponymous line, Four Hands makes five other collections of furnishings and lighting, including Bina, Boulevard, Old Java, Architects & Heroes, and Bluefish; they are also the exclusive North American distributor for furnishings by Esquire Home.
Past Sales Featuring Four Hands
Destination Design: Stockholm FarmhouseA subtly rustic remix on Scandinavian minimalism, this style blends simply sophisticated forms with rustic textures and an elegant-yet-livable feel.
Destination Design: Florence VillaHave an "Eat, Pray, Love" moment — the Italy part, at least — with furnishings and accents that are perfectly cut out for a villa in Florence. Luxe textures and well-tailored lines are key to the look (think a custom-made Italian suit). There’s plenty to inspire the cook, too.
Destination Design: London FlatSerene, sophisticated style, punctuated by well-placed pops of color and a keen sense of humor, calls to mind the modern-day London apartment. And it’s style with smarts: Cultural influences and historical references subtly abound.
Up to 75% Off: Four Hands FurnitureNamed for its hands-on approach to design, this Austin-based company works with artisans around the world to create custom designs using sustainable materials. A rustic, subtly vintage-feeling aesthetic defines the lot.
Modern FolkWe dubbed this selection of design finds “modern folk,” because of the way they combine a subtly homespun, artisan feel with fresh, contemporary lines. It’s a look that’s soft and fresh, and at once retro yet totally 2013-appropriate.
Financier's DenUptown sophistication merges with a little downtown edge in the modern-day financier’s den. Strong shapes, luxurious textures, and neutral hues with focused hits of color exemplify the furnishings and accents on offer here. All told, they’ll outfit an apartment that both reflects and inspires success.
