Generic Surplus
Generic Surplus founders Brandon Day and Kevin Carney say the goal of their men's footwear imprint is to serve as a "case study in adultism”: an aesthetic that represents the intersection of mature sophistication and youthful street attitude. The younger sibling of Day and Carney's luxury label Generic Man, Generic Surplus offers the same understated style and unmatched versatility as its older brother, but with a more casual vibe and at lower price points. The result? Sharp, logo-free chukka boots, lightweight mesh plimsolls, wingtip shoes, and other designs in materials ranging from bone brown canvas to oxblood leather. Based in L.A., Generic Surplus has collaborated with the French couture label Comme des Garçons on Shirt — a line of slip-ons and lace-up sneakers in bright primary colors and neutral hues. Another favorite designing partner is Obey, the fashion label started by artist Shepard Fairey (the artist behind President Obama's “HOPE” poster).

Shades of Blue
If there’s one color any guy can pull off, it’s blue. (We’d argue that, when done right, there’s hardly a color out there that a guy can’t pull off, but that’s a topic for another time.) This smart selection of slip-ons, lace-ups, sneakers, and more gives you plenty of ways to put that theory into to practice.
