Helmut Lang Women's - 04/18/2008

Born in Vienna, Austria, Helmut Lang started designing clothes in the late seventies and by 1979 had set up his own fashion boutique. By 1986 he began to show his women’s line in Paris, followed by a men’s collection a year later. He became famous for his simple but refined designs, his slim suits in black or white, his denim collection and the use of high-tech fabrics and a signature stripped down minimalism (no shoulder pads, no linings, straight lines, no embellishment.) Today, Lang is considered one of the pace-makers in fashion. He has been labeled a deconstructionist, a futurist, and a minimalist, always attributed with fashion trends that soon after become embraced by the masses. Following worldwide success, Helmut Lang moved his company's headquarters to New York City in 1997. His line is distributed in stores like Barneys, Jeffery, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman as well as in signature Helmut Lang stores around the world. Helmut Lang’s consistently cool, intellectual style is a welcome and exciting addition to Gilt Groupe.
