Judy Ross is a New York–based designer and artist. Traveling in India to work as an independent textile designer, she developed a passion for the centuries-old hand embroidery technique known as chain stitch, used by people in the Kashmir region to embellish shawls with traditional paisley and floral patterns. She lived on a houseboat on Upper Dal Lake while collaborating with the master embroiderers to develop a line of impeccably stitched contemporary wool scarves. From those scarves, her product line has expanded to home textiles: pillows, rugs, fabric by the yard, bedcovers and wall hangings. In 2008, Judy Ross Textiles began producing furniture pieces such as stools, cubes and screens.

Anyone who says you can’t mix and match patterns is just being a killjoy. We give you license to mix away: Scatter some splashy Lulu DK for Matouk pillows around; set Christen Maxwell's bold-printed pinched trays on the table—and get one of Capel’s extroverted cowhide rugs underfoot. Style note: If you’re mixing patterns, keep at least one major element (like a wall or sofa) solid.
Shop this handpicked selection of our finest tabletop, bedding, and glassware offerings available for under a Benjamin. Snap up John Robshaw block-print robes, a Munjoy Citrus coverlet from Errebicasa, or a cotton Kantha throw in brown Ikat from Couleur Nature. Fill your house with the scent of Manuel Canovas’ Ballade Verte eau de parfum—with notes of violet, Turkish rose, and ylang ylang—which was inspired by a French toile fabric. And—just in the nick of time—score a red snowflake stocking by Judy Ross to hang by the chimney with care.
