Judy Ross is a New York–based designer and artist. Traveling in India to work as an independent textile designer, she developed a passion for the centuries-old hand embroidery technique known as chain stitch, used by people in the Kashmir region to embellish shawls with traditional paisley and floral patterns. She lived on a houseboat on Upper Dal Lake while collaborating with the master embroiderers to develop a line of impeccably stitched contemporary wool scarves. From those scarves, her product line has expanded to home textiles: pillows, rugs, fabric by the yard, bedcovers and wall hangings. In 2008, Judy Ross Textiles began producing furniture pieces such as stools, cubes and screens.
Imbue your home with a beachy vibe—even if it’s anything but summery outdoors—with goods featuring the classic pairing of blue and white. Make a graphic statement with Judy Ross’ Spray handknotted rug, fashioned from silk and wool, or rest easy on Sferra’s Lindsay sheet set, with its floral-inspired jacquard embroidery. Finally, snag an elegant accessory, like Cenedese’s cobalt Murano-glass vase. Each is mouthblown in Italy, following centuries-old traditions.
Judy Ross’s contemporary, hand-knotted wool rugs add a bold graphic punch to any decor. Choose from wavy geometric prints and natural motifs like leaves, flowers, and vines, all available in color combinations from neutral to splashy. And what better complement for these floor coverings than Baker’s elegant, clean-lined furnishings from the top names in design? Here you'll find Barbara Barry's reeded armoire, Laura Kirar's Asian-influenced Dansu bar cabinet (in walnut finish), and Michael Vanderbyl's sleek dining table with a glass top featuring his signature diamond grid.
Anyone who says you can’t mix and match patterns is just being a killjoy. We give you license to mix away: Scatter some splashy Lulu DK for Matouk pillows around; set Christen Maxwell's bold-printed pinched trays on the table—and get one of Capel’s extroverted cowhide rugs underfoot. Style note: If you’re mixing patterns, keep at least one major element (like a wall or sofa) solid.
