In 1972, Hawaii-based surfers Gerry Lopez and Jeff Shipley began crafting surfwear they could actually surf in—think board shorts in comfortable cotton that stopped well above the knees — as well post-pipeline duds like soft tees and tanks. For a while, Lightning Bolt gear was seen on every beach around the world. Then, in the early ‘80s, the brand was bought out, and for nearly twenty years it languished in the States. That changed in 2009, when the newly relevant brand relaunched under new ownership. Now based in SoCal and produced in the U.S., Lightning Bolt offers swim trunks and casual gear in old-school styles that you don’t have to be a surfer to love.

Active-Inspired LooksYou may have heard that it’s cool to wear sweats on the streets now. That’s definitely true — it’s a trend that’s taken over both the runways and the streets — with one caveat: They need to be in a slim cut just like your other clothes. These hoodies, shoes, jackets, and more will look equally good whether you’re hitting the gym, hiking in the woods, or walking to your nearest watering hole.
