Fashion icon Marc Jacobs is a cornerstone of contemporary American design, known for his rebellious designs as much as his reverential references to styles of the past. Born in New York, the wunderkind Jacobs was the youngest designer ever to be granted CFDA's Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent. Jacobs' ability to upend trend by designing at the forefront of couture culture has made him a celebrity in his own right, and the ever-experimental Jacobs has also earned the adoration of the avant-garde through his unexpected collaborations with painters such as Takashi Murakami.
Born and bred in New York, designer Marc Jacobs attended the Parsons School of Art and Design where he won the Perry Ellis Golden Thimble Award in 1984, proving to be the first of many in his career. Jacobs received the distinct honor of being the youngest designer to ever be granted CFDA’s Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent and has since gone on to achieve six additional awards from the esteemed organization. Jacobs launched his namesake line in 1986 and in 2001, debuted another critically acclaimed collection, Marc by Marc Jacobs, a collection of “edgy and retro mass-market pieces.” Jacobs was Vice President of Women's Design at Perry Ellis where he debuted the grunge-inspired look that became his signature and moved on to work for Louis Vuitton to design their first ready-to-wear line in 1997. Stylish women from Sophia Coppola to Kirsten Dunst love this designer and his internationally renowned collections are on display at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Barney’s New York and now, Gilt Groupe.
