Originally sculpted to look like founder Lee Middleton's two children, she quickly found herself making similar dolls for family and friends, before scouting out a larger location for production. Manufactured in Belpre, Ohio, the lifelike dolls shot to fame soon after their launch, even prompting Belpre's mayor to declare the city "The Baby Doll Capital of the World." Lee Middleton's legacy continues after her 1997 death, with a team of doll artists creating more than 100 new dolls every year.
