The company got its start when optician and entrepreneur Richard Morgenthal bought Frederics, a freestanding Madison Avenue shop, and started turning out high-end, cutting-edge glasses and frames. Morgenthal Frederics has since become an eyeglasses empire — celebrated for its handcrafted prescription glasses and luxe sunglasses made of buffalo horn, titanium, and other fine materials. The brand’s sleek, signature shades have framed the famous faces of trendsetters ranging from Julia Roberts to Jay-Z.
