Nintendo
In the U.S., Nintendo became a household name during the 1980s, when its hand-held Game Boy became the must-have toy for millions of children (and, in many cases, their parents!). In the 1990s and 2000s Nintendo struck gold again with the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 home video game consoles (the latter enhanced by 3D graphics), handheld Nintendo DS, and Wii. With so many technologically advanced toys in its product line, you might be surprised to find out that Nintendo has been around since 1889 — founded by Japanese entrepreneur Fusajiro Yamauchi as a producer of handmade card games. Centuries later, Nintendo continues to produce playing cards in addition to its consoles and games. One of our favorite Nintendo inventions: The stylish handheld 3DS XL, available in pink and white.
