Acetate classic sunglasses
Persol sunglasses – or occhiali da sole, as you would say in the brand’s native Italian – have been synonymous with effortless elegance and cucumber-cool since 1917, when Giuseppe Ratti founded the company to cater to pilots and sports drivers. The sunglasses and eyeglasses quickly became iconic, adorning the faces of celebrities and trendsetters in their most memorable roles and moments: Steve McQueen popularized the unique folding Persol 714 sunglasses in The Thomas Crown Affair and wore the Persol 649 in many photographs. Marcelo Mastroianni, legitimately one of the world’s coolest cats, wore the 0649 in Divorce Italian Style, as well as practically every scene of La Dolce Vita. James Bond wears Persols – both Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig incarnations graced the silver screen sporting the vintage-style sunglasses. And Bill Murray wore Persols in Lost in Translation; Tom Cruise, Ryan Gosling, and Patrick Dempsey all have pairs. The list is endless, and only serves to emphasize Persol’s sophisto cred.
