Raoul Taburin is a man who knows everything there is to know about bicycles, except how to ride one. An expert bicycle mechanic, thanks to constantly crashing and subsequently having to repair bikes as a child, he is admired by everyone in town for his skill and knowledge. However, no one knows his deep, dark secret - not even his wife knows that the great Raoul Taburin cannot ride a bike. When his friend Noel, who is a photographer, announces that he would like to take a picture of Raoul riding his bike down a local hill, Raoul finally has to confront his fears, with unexpectedly dramatic results. Originally published in France in 1995, Raoul Taburin Keeps a Secret is a charming graphic novel by the renowned illustrator and author Jean-Jacques Sempe.

Phaidon’s empire of world-renowned books on food, architecture, fashion, design and travel complement the publisher’s beginnings. Named after Socrates’s pupil Phaedo, who was known for his discourses on immortality, this London-based publishing house got its start in 1923 as a producer of high quality, reasonably priced literature, philosophy, and history books. In 1936 it added art to its repertoire, publishing some of the first monographs of Van Gogh and Botticelli. All volumes pair erudite text with breathtaking photography; a perennial favorite is Phaidon’s stunning, large-scale Atlas of 21st Century World Architecture.
