Quail
Michelle Nguyen Williams’ fun, frothy clothing label is called Quail because in the 1960s, "quail" was slang for “young woman.” Given that her garments recall an era of jazzy organza skirts and girlish chubby jackets, the name seems more than fitting. Without formal training, Williams learned to tightly tuck and gather silk into intricate rosettes — a design element often repeated in Quail’s fluffy, feminine separates. For good measure, some reform-school attitude is also thrown in, like handcuff-printed slips and tees emblazoned with the words “Sweet, Sweet Rebel.”
