Before launching his eponymous line in 2004, wonder boy Richard Chai cut his teeth at Donna Karan, Geoffrey Beene, Marc Jacobs (where he helped start Marc by Marc Jacobs) and as creative director at TSE. Known for his attention to detail, muted color palettes and unusual fabric pairings, Chai's distinctive aesthetic has garnered him the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award and induction into the prestigious CFDA. His fresh designs employing old-world tailoring techniques are favorites among editors as well as celebrities such as Kate Hudson, Blake Lively and Sarah Jessica Parker. As a testament to Chai's influence in the fashion industry, in 2008 he was asked to design a diffusion line for Target, which sold out within days.
Rich with bold prints, unexpected textures and strong silhouettes, this selection from Behnaz Sarafpour and Richard Chai is full of must-have pieces for fashion-forward trendsetters. Chai’s penchant for old-world tailoring and unusual fabric pairings shines through in the pistachio-colored plaid frock, featuring draped wool and silk with a contrast panel. And Sarafpour’s eye for luxe, exquisite fabrics is evident in the meticulously crafted alpaca wool dress, featuring a pin-tucked bust and panel seaming.
Richard Chai’s stylish blazers and coats display his impeccable tailoring, but it’s in pieces like the textured plaid dress with a draped neckline and the short Grecian-inspired cashmere dress that his artistry really shines through. Print-lovers will adore the frocks in floral chiffon and starburst-patterned wool silk. Chai excels in casualwear, too, and the long gathered cardigans in mohair look fantastic with skinny jeans.
What’s not to love about sheath dresses? They’re flattering, forgiving wardrobe staples that drape in all the right places and show off just the right amount of leg. Our selection is a great one at that, offering looks in neutrals and jewel tones, as well as more daring frocks, featuring animal prints, contrast piping, and studs.
Four design talents showcase their signature brands of femininity in this sale. Doo.Ri pours on the silk jersey in dresses, gowns, blouses and skirts. Proenza Schouler makes magic with velvets and brocades in glamorous metallics and jewel tones. Richard Chai goes aflutter with chiffon frocks, and Thakoon’s suits temper tailoring with flirty details.
