Robert Lee Morris

Robert Lee Morris

He made art wearable. Known as the godfather of fine jewelry, Robert Lee Morris’ groundbreaking SoHo gallery, Artwear, redefined the way jewelry is perceived and merchandised. Working from inspirations as varied as Bronze Age spears, Chinese jade axes and African tribal ironwork, Morris made an instant splash after opening his store in 1977. He has since collaborated with designers such as Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld, Michael Kors and Donna Karan, earning a reputation for crafting irreplaceable, utterly original pieces that are at once sculptural, cerebral, sexy and fun. His honors include a Coty award, two CFDA awards and the DeBeers “Right Hand Ring” award.
