Thanks to his spot-on curatorial approach to merchandising, NYC-based designer Steven Alan scored success not long after opening his first boutique in 1994, as the fashion-forward flocked to his store in search of eclectic and distinctive clothing. In 1999, Alan launched his own eponymous collection and won praise for his vintage-looking, reverse-seam button-down shirts. Today the Steven Alan collection includes everything from indie-spirited men’s suits, jeans, and ties to women’s printed dresses, tees and skirts, all toeing the line between classic and edgy. In addition to developing his own label, Alan has collaborated with Keds, Uniqlo, and Dockers, among other brands.

Contemporary Styles Under $100Get ready to score a bounty of stylish, summer-ready picks from some our favorite contemporary labels: Think Tucker, Pink Tartan, Stretta, and Helmut Lang. Shop standout dresses in printed silk, soft jersey, and sexy bandage knits, plus plenty of made-to-mix classics from textured cotton cardigans, floral button-downs, and straight-leg trousers, perfectly tailored for an everyday-chic look.
The Ultimate Dress Shop: The SheathSay hello to summer's most versatile, timelessly chic piece: The sheath dress. Like all of the best-designed objects, its brilliance lies in its simplicity. A slim cut flatters every figure, while an unfussy silhouette makes it wearable everywhere from the office to date night. Start with one that flaunts your favorite assets—a V-neck for dècolletage, a higher hemline for legs—then dress it up or down to suit every occasion. A tailored blazer adds instant sophistication; statement jewelry takes it to ultra-glam territory. We dare you to find somewhere you can't wear yours this season.
