About Strida

What started as a graduate design project at London’s Royal College of Art has morphed into Strida, the maker of the world’s lightest, sleekest, most innovative folding bicycles. With their brash colors and unique triangular frame, these greaseless, corrosion-resistant, zero-maintenance models began winning global design awards almost immediately after their 1987 debut. Feel free to check yours onto a commercial airline or toss it into your car trunk: They’re just that small and easy to transport

Strida and Vanmoof Bikes - 10/20/2009

Apprenticing at Rolls-Royce tends to give you an appreciation for traveling in style. At least it did for Mark Sanders, who took what he learned at Rolls, then cut the number of wheels in half and created the award-winning Strida folding bicycle. Its quirky triangular shape and incredible ease-of-use (it folds up within five seconds, weighs less than 20 pounds, and can roll while folded) made it a huge hit in the UK after its 2007 debut. Since it has no grease on the chain, your pants will stay clean — and if Strida’s awards from environmental groups like Treehugger are any indication, the earth will stay even cleaner. And who knows bikes better than the Dutch? Designer Sjoerd Smit created the Vanmoof bike specifically for the rough-riding streets of Amsterdam. The super-sleek single-speed cruiser is constructed from rustproof aluminum and houses two solar-powered lamps, so you'll be as stylin' as you are sustainable.
