The Uglydoll family of toys was created by artists David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, inspired by an orange character Horvath drew for Kim at the end of a love letter. Kim stormed up a plush doll from the drawing as a gift for Horvath, and the first Uglydoll was born. The dolls were soon picked up by Giant Robot in Los Angeles, and went on to win the Specialty Toy of the Year award in 2006. Horvath and Kim are now married.
