From Jennifer Lopez and Chelsea Clinton to your cousins Jennifer and Chelsea, millions of brides have said "I do" in a Vera Wang wedding gown. A New York City native and former competitive figure skater, Wang had spent 15 years honing her discerning eye as an accessories editor at Vogue before launching her household-name brand of understated bridalwear in the late 1980s. Her dresses and gowns are for women who adore classic, minimalist style — think draping fabrics and flattering shapes that derive their glamour from texture and stitching instead of sequins and sparkles. Wang applies the same simple aesthetic to her ultra-feminine couture line and ready-to-wear label Vera Wang Lavender. Awash in elegant, muted colors, rich fabrics, and luxe details, Wang’s coveted collections are consistently chic; her thoughtful silhouettes are romantic, thoughtful, and slightly whimsical all at once. Aside from clothing, Wang's creations include perfume, fine jewelry, stationery, bedding, and hotel room décor. She’s also created the collaborative labels Simply Vera (with Kohl’s), Vera Wang for Hartmann (luggage), and White by Vera Wang (with David’s Bridal) to bring her inimitable style to the mass market.

New York-native Vera Wang opened her bridal salon in 1990 at the renowned Carlyle Hotel on Madison Avenue. Famous for infusing romance and modernity into wedding gowns, Vera Wang’s clientele look to her for subtle sophistication and understated elegance. She honed her talents during a sixteen-year tenure at Vogue where she earned the title of Senior Fashion Editor and then moved to Ralph Lauren where she worked as design director until ultimately leaving to open her own boutique. Today, Wang's vision has expanded to footwear, fragrance, eyewear, and home furnishings. In 2005, the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America named Vera Wang as Womenswear Designer of the Year. Her collections are distributed worldwide in top stores including Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue and now, Gilt Groupe is pleased to introduce Vera Wang to our esteemed list of designers.
