Winter Water Factory
Children's books, vintage wallpaper, and envelope liners are just some of the many eclectic objects that inspire Margaret McCartney and Stefanie Lynen, the duo behind the children’s clothing label Winter Water Factory. Based in Brooklyn, McCartney and Lynen founded their organic apparel line after spending several years working together as holiday décor designers for a large company. In 2005, they rented a studio and began exploring the possibilities of screen-printed fabric. The result: striking prints that perfectly balance bold and whimsical. Winter Water Factory’s pure cotton onesies, rompers and other baby clothes come in adorable prints such as owls, flowers, and multi-colored dots; hoodies, pants, and tops fit boys and girls up to size eight. Moms who admire Winter Water Factory’s colorful prints are in luck: the label offers a small collection of dresses, shirts, and totes so you can match your little ones. About that weird name: The original “Winterwasserfabrik” was founded in the early 1980s in Eschweiler, Germany, where Lynen and her sister bottled fresh snow and sold it to their parents as “winter water.”
