Assistant Controller

Job Description:
The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and assist in directing all the accounting functions of the organization. The company is looking for a candidate with a strong track record of establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures. This individual will be responsible for preparing corporate consolidated, business unit and subsidiary financial statements in addition to assisting with producing monthly reporting packages to senior management. Based in our New York office, this role is highly visible with opportunity for growth within the organization.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
• Oversee, execute and enhance monthly closing process
• Supervise senior and junior accountants responsible for recording daily and monthly financial transactions
• Establish, implement and maintain internal control systems and procedures specific to, but not limited to, month-end close
• Ensure all accounting transactions are appropriately supported and authorized
• Document accounting treatment of existing routine and non-routine accounting transactions.
• Conduct research and advise senior management on accounting treatment as business model changes are proposed and/or new Gilt Inc business units and companies are formed
• Manage the general ledger system to ensure rights assigned maintain appropriate segregation of duties
• Maintain chart of accounts for corporate, business units and subsidiaries
• Responsible for preparing financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Work closely with external auditors regarding understanding and application of changes in and/or new accounting pronouncements
• Partner with Controller in preparation and support for financial statement audits
• Work on special projects as needed
Requirements:
• B.S. in Accounting
• CPA licensed
• Minimum 7-9 years of Accounting experience
• Minimum 4 years in Public Accounting (with a Big 4 Firm)
• Knowledge of GAAP and FASB
• Experience managing staff
• Demonstrated expertise in Excel, including pivot tables
• Exceptional written/verbal communication and presentation skills
• Willing to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with month-end close likely requiring additional hour
