Director, Category Management - Home

Gilt Groupe provides invitation-only access to high-end fashion and luxury brands at highly discounted prices. The company currently works with a roster of nearly 400 up-and-coming and established brands in the women's, men's, children's, beauty, and home fashion categories.

Gilt Groupe was founded by an experienced team with proven track records at successful luxury fashion companies. Gilt Groupe is a fully funded company and is currently based in the vibrant Chelsea neighborhood in New York City.

Gilt Groupe Home team is looking for a seasoned Director of Category Management to help manage and grow its Home business.  The Gilt Home business is positioned for significant growth in the years ahead and we need a senior category person who relishes the idea of taking ownership of this business and unleashing this growth.  The successful candidate will have a passion for the Home business, the drive to flawlessly execute on strategic goals, and able to adapt to the ever-changing retail environment. Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to use customer data in smart and ground-breaking ways are a must. Excellent writing skills, and a strong eye for detail required. He/she should be innovative, team oriented, and an effective communicator, as well as have a desire to participate in a fast-paced, start-up environment with rapidly changing priorities.

 
This role calls for an individual who can determine, then drive, any initiatives necessary to grow the Home category, working in partnership with the merchandising, marketing, operations, technical and finance teams. He/she must have the technical depth necessary to build trust with development teams, and the business depth to interface with Gilt executives and build successful relationships with partners.

Specific responsibilities include the following:


    * Research and identify opportunities for Gilt to further distinguish its Home offering.
    * Define a long-term category roadmap, including marketing,  business development and technical initiatives.
    * Conduct competitor, customer, business and financial analysis, including monitoring, forecasting and reporting.
    * Define requirements, and drive Home specific customer experience projects and work with all relevant cross-functional areas and our technology teams to guarantee smooth, efficient implementation.
    * Manage bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade-offs, balance the business needs versus technical constraints, and maximize business benefit while building a great customer experience for Home.
    * Work cross-functionally with marketing, product and project management, designers, software development engineers, buyers and other internal partners.

Qualifications:


The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

    * Possess exceptional customer experience judgment and be incredibly analytical and creative.
    * Possess an entrepreneurial spirit with strong category,  program and product management skills.
    * Manage the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities for the Home category.
    * Strong oral and written communication skills are crucial, as well as ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, help to scope technical requirements and prioritize.
    * Sound business judgment, proven ability to influence others, and strong analytical thinking skills are critical to success in this position.
    * Strong bias for action and ability to prioritize
    * Proven success managing cross-functional teams to accomplish aggressive goals
    * Experience with category marketing and customer acquisition
    * Experience managing consumer-facing websites features
    * Experience working closely with software development teams
    * A strong background (5+ years) in product management and/or marketing is required; ecommerce or online advertising industry experience and previous sales/business development experience are highly desired.
    * A bachelor's degree is required. An MBA is desirable.
