Monitoring Engineer

Company Background:

Gilt Groupe provides access, by invitation only, to Men's, Women's, Children's, Beauty, and Home coveted fashion and luxury brands at prices up to 70% off retail. Each sale lasts 36 hours and features hand selected styles from a single designer. The business model, based on urgency and scarcity, offers extraordinary goods at incredible prices, but only for a limited time. All of these sales occur daily at noon, driven by daily email reminders and alerts to a private membership. Most of the hot items are sold within the first 10 minutes, with the bulk of sales occurring within the first 90 minutes.

Position

Gilt Groupe builds, maintains, and runs multiple systems to support our rapidly growing business. These systems include the customer facing websites, the internal administration, marketing, merchandising and logistical support systems, and the underlying services infrastructure. Our Monitoring team will be tasked with ensuring the ongoing surveillance of the overall health of these systems over all aspects including customer experience quality, system performance and functional correctness.

We are looking for an individual with experience and an overall sense of Monitoring that is both analytical and predictive.

Responsibilities

- Developing a monitoring strategy for gilt websites, services and systems to ensure that systems remain available and working within defined parameters and SLAs
- Implement monitoring systems using third-party, open source, or custom-developed components
- Supervise the running the monitoring solution on a day to day basis

Qualifications

- Strong interest in system monitoring
- Experience with Operational Tools
- Experience working with distributed systems or services architectures
- Experience working with one or more serious, enterprise- or internet- grade monitoring systems
- Interest in developing custom solutions

Having exposure to development and able to script to do minor development tasks would be a PLUS

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related degree
