Gilt Groupe provides invitation-only access to high-end fashion and luxury brands at highly discounted prices. The company currently works with a roster of nearly 200 up-and-coming and established brands in the women's, men's, children's, and home fashion categories.

Gilt Groupe was founded by an experienced team with proven track records at successful luxury fashion companies. Gilt Groupe is a fully funded company and is currently based in the vibrant Chelsea neighborhood in New York City.

Overview

The person in the Jewelry Buyer role is responsible for:

  • Achieving financial targets set by Director of Finance
  • Initiating new relationships for Gilt Groupe with domestic and international jewelry brands
  • Convincing these brands to become Gilt Groupe partners
  • Following up with jewelry brands that approach Gilt Groupe or brands that the Chief Merchandising Officer approaches for future sales
  • Executing 2-4 jewelry sales per month
  • Managing the Buying (or Consignment) Process for jewelry
    • Choosing the styles and quantities of pieces to be sold for each sale
    • Negotiating buying terms with the brand (price, quantity, delivery terms, consignment preferred vs buying if possible)
    • Acquiring creative assets from the brand in a timely manner (images, press kits, reel assets, samples for photo shoots when possible)
    • Creating the Purchase Order (PO) for each buy or consignment deal with a vendor (retail, wholesale, Gilt cost and Gilt retail prices needed)
    • Inputting pricing and descriptions into the website in advance of the sale
  • Maintaining existing relationships with brands and initiating repeat sales
  • Keeping abreast of industry trends and new product ideas by reading relevant magazines and visiting stores regularly
  • Attending all relevant jewelry Trade Shows

Requirements

  • 5-7 years experience working in the jewelry market
  • Ability to initiate relationships with jewelry brands
  • Self-starter, creative thinker, ambitious in nature, good with people
  • Interest in retail and fashion, avid reader of fashion and trade publications
  • Strong understanding of merchandising financials and ability to manage profitability
  • Knowledge of “Open to Buy” process
  • Ability to analyze reports and draw conclusions/recommendations from sales data
  • Ability to remain flexible and willing to change strategies, as business needs dictate
  • Ability to lead teams effectively and create an exciting workplace
