Boot Up

The factory tour craze continues, and we're fine with that.

Photo: Randy DouglasIn terms of sheer having-a-moment-ness, could there be anything more late-September 2010 than the classically-styled, American made work boot? Yes, as a matter of fact. I’m talking, of course, about the gorgeously shot tour of the nicely aged facility wherein said footwear is produced. Two prime examples have appeared recently, and both are worth your time. Randy Douglas’s photos for Inventory magazine of the Red Wing factory in Minnesota remind you why factory tours got so trendy in the first place, while the second video (bottom) in Michael Williams and Sean Sullivan’s two-part profile of the magic that happens at Wolverine’s facility in Michigan will likley do the same (and sell a few U.S. Royalty records in the process). At the risk of getting too salesy, there are also the very cool calfskin and canvas Helm work boots that Gilt MAN head buyer Chris Wong spotlighted on Monday, and which are on sale now.
