Gilded Age Hits the South Seas

News and notes from the front lines of New York Fashion Week — sponsored by Samsung Galaxy.

You probably know Gilded Age for its artfully worn-in denim and deceptively luxe shirts, sweaters, and blazers. All were present and accounted for in Stefan Miljanic’s latest collection, but what caught my eye this season were the washed leather jackets, which were butter-soft, ultra lightweight, and thoroughly masculine. The inspiration for the collection was the islands of Hawaii, Guam, and Tahiti in the thirties. Miljanic told me he was imagining a guy “who wants to go the South Seas and stay for a while—he’s not going to be in a hurry to come back.” Especially if it gets cool enough in the evenings to throw on one of these things.
