What to do upon landing in Beijing may be a little more hazy. But last night’s opening of Kawakubo’s latest Dover Street-inspired shopping emporium, I.T. Beijing Market, has cleared up the picture. The 20,000-square-foot space houses all the variations of Comme des Garçons, along with like-mindedly vanguard brands like Rick Owens, Ann Demeulemeester, and Maison Martin Margiela. Perhaps a bit puzzling is the basement space, which serves as a BAPE boutique, at a time when Nigo’s stranglehold on the streetwear world has waned (much like the popularity of streetwear itself).
