Morning Recon: GQ's Best New Menswear Designers, Eunice Lee's Rules of Style, and More

Every day we get up early to scan the web for the best in men's style. And then we go grab a coffee. After that, we sit down and bang out a blog post. Here it is.

Head of His Class: Michael Bastian for Gant.

GQ names the six finalists in its yearly Best New Menswear Designers in America competition: Patrik Ervell; Alexander Wang (for his T by Alexander Wang line); Michael Bastian (for his Gant collection); Rick Klotz of Warriors of Radness; Kirk Miller of Miller’s Oath; and Joe Sadler, Derek Buse, and Greg Ullery of Riviera Club.

Kempt highlights a perfect version of that winter wardrobe staple we mentioned only yesterday: the shawl-collar sweater.

Speaking of perfection, Eunice Lee, maker of the excellent Unis chino, gives Details her rules of style.

And speaking of Details, the magazine’s spring shoe primer gives us some pointers on sporting saddle shoes, with the help of designer Mark McNairy.

As the Northeast gets slammed by yet another round of snow storms, Gant Rugger teases us with beer, beaches, and barbecues in their spring/summer 2011 preview video, “Gangs of New Haven.”

Sculptor Charles Ledray out-crops Thom Browne, and pays homage to the suit.

The New York Times highlights some Gilt MANual favorites (Schott, Extra, +J) in its series of weekly shopping picks.

And finally, WWD wraps up European men’s fashion week (again) by showing us the main trends we can pull from the runway and apply to the street.
