Balancing Act

Our style director's fully customized 574 design.

The New Balance 574 is a footwear staple for every man with even a passing interest in sneakers. While normally we’d endorse the classic gray version (and gray sneakers in general), last night afforded us the opportunity to fashion our very own 574s. New Balance has thrown its hat into the sneaker-customization ring with a wide array of colors and a streamlined, easily navigable process. Also streamlined? Delivery. Because 574s are made right here in the U.S. of A., you’ll get yours within two weeks. Pictured above is the design masterminded by our own Josh Peskowitz, who, in his words, “decided to keep the overall color scheme to gray, but added hints of forest green, which is quickly becoming my new navy blue.” And with a delivery time in the tangible future Josh knows what to pair these with. “They will look damn fresh with some slim chinos and that gray herringbone unstructured and unlined LBM 1911 blazer I picked up on Gilt MAN last week,” he says. “Which, coincidentally, I was wearing while I made these shoes. Funny how those things happen.”

My introduction to NB’s when I was 13 was 574’s so they hold a certain place in my heart (fortunately and unfortunately, they were Raider black and silver, instead of the navy/gray colorway) but I’ll jump on the custom boat soon enough.
