New York Rangers left wing Sean Avery is known for his intensity on the ice as well as his love of art and fashion—he’s got a Warhol of Wayne Gretzky hanging in his apartment (above), and he once logged time as an intern at Vogue—but his focus these days is helping his pals in the world of finance look sharp. “When you look good, you feel good, and that’s half the battle,” Avery says. “When you know you’re going to get up and get out of bed and put some great clothes on, and go out and do ultimately what everyone’s trying to do—to be as successful as they can be—it sets the tone for your day.”
Starting today, Avery is putting that philosophy into action, curating a series of three weekly sales for Gilt MAN, each focusing on a different phase of the life of a style-conscious professional. First up is “At Work,” and the pieces Avery picked out (think A. Testoni shoes; crisp, fitted white shirts; and razor-sharp suits by Raf Simons, Martin Greenfield, and Calvin Klein Collection) would be at home in the closet of any rising master of the universe. But, Avery being Avery, there are also a few off-beat inclusions. “I picked a tuxedo,” he says. “I have to wear suits to work myself, and what better suit to wear than a tux? It’s kind of hard to beat that. I think at work attire has a little more richness to it, where you really are dressing to impress. That’s your business. You’ve got to dress the part.” Who are we to disagree?
Shop the sale on Gilt MAN today at noon ET. And check back next Friday for Sean’s picks for what to wear on a night on the town, and on March 25th for his take on the ultimate weekend look.
