Working, as many of us do, in a generously air-conditioned environment, I’m always on the lookout for what I think of as the office layer—that unstructured sport coat, waist-length golf jacket, or easy-on/easy-off sweater that looks sharp and provides enough warmth to fend off the chilly air perpetually cycling through the building’s vents, but is also lightweight and pliable (so I can easily stuff it into my bag for the commute home, of course). I think I’ve found such a piece in this shawl-collar cardigan, made of 100% merino wool (one of my favorite spring fabrics). I like the trim, tailored look of this one, and how it hits right at the waist—proportions that make it a perfect pairing with an oxford cloth shirt and tie at work, or a T-shirt and dark-rinse jeans over the weekend. Consider adding one to your work-week arsenal; and whatever you do, don’t be that guy awkwardly wearing a chunky knit scarf around the office.
