We’ve paid a lot of attention to socks over the past few months, and for good reason—they’re the one category of accessory that’s unbound by the rules of matching. But with ever-warmer days right around the corner, we feel compelled to issue the following statement: Put all your socks away. (Well, until Labor Day, at least.) Spring and summer are conducive to lighter, more comfortable footwear—sneakers, yes, but also loafers, moccasins, boat shoes, and suede kicks of all kinds. And none of those necessitate the wearing of socks. In fact, many of these shoes look better without wool or cotton ankle adornments. Just check out the the chocolate brown suede loafers worn above by Gilt MANual contributor Euan Rellie. Some great things to take away from Euan’s look, starting with the pant cuff. Don’t be afraid to show a little skin: Cuffing your jeans or cotton trousers just slightly will show the world that, yes, you intended to go commando.
One word about odor. Peds (those small, near-invisible micro-socks or “loafer socks”) are acceptable, and will help alleviate any olfactory dilemmas while preserving your sockless look. Otherwise, a little bit of Gold Bond Powder never hurt anyone.
